“We should not forget that not only understanding, but also misunderstanding is a necessary and useful condition in communication”. – Lotman, Y.M. Universe of the Mind. A Semiotic Theory of Culture, (p. 80-81)
A text that might comprehensible but at the same time never absolutely comprehensible. An absolutely understandable and understanding partner would be convenient but unnecessary, since he or she would be a mechanical copy of my ’I’ and our conversation would provide us with no increase in information. If others could fully understand ourself, there would be no communication. If I could fully understand myself, there would be no thinking.
